Gazza Does A Runner

On Sunday, 20th June, Alfie's Uncle Gary competed in the Wombourne Half Marathon to raise money to help his little nephew.

The event had a fantastic turn out with over 600 runners competing in extremely hot conditions. This was the first time the event had taken place in 8 years, and already the Wombourne Half Marathon 2011 is being planned.

Uncle Gary had been in training for over 4 months and set a personal best finishing time of 1hour 45 mins. He had this to say about his experience:

“ As I live in Wombourne I was thrilled when I heard that the Wombourne Half Marathon was to take place after an 8 year absence.

The event has always been a fantastic success in the past and raised a great amount of money for charities and good-causes. As soon as I registered there was only one cause that I wanted to run for, and that was my little nephew, Alfie.
I ran the event with my brother-in-law, Andy and some close friends who did a great job on the day. Conditions were pretty extreme but the roar of the crowd really picked me up and made the 13 miles go a lot quicker than I was expecting.

It was great to see Alfie at the event after I finished and many family members and friends were on hand to give us all great support when we finished.
I would like to thank everyone who kindly sponsored me and the rest of the team to raise money for a very special little boy”.

The Friends of Alfie Johnson are extremely grateful to Gary and the rest of the runners who took part in this gruelling event to raise money for Alfie. Thank you.
